Knitting Project #4: VW Green Thin Scarf (Completed!)

VW Green Thin Scarf

This project is requested by my husband, he told me that he saw someone wearing a thin scarf and he thinks that's cool so he wanted one too. This simple scarf is really simple, garter stitch all the way! I gave him a few patterns to choose from and he chose this. When it comes to colour, my husband picked it too. At first he told me he wanted VW (Volkswagen) green, I had no idea what VW green is, so I took him to the yarn shop and then he picked this colour, haha! Okay...

This was the first project that I've started since I've learn to knit in continental method, so it was quite a good practice. The needles I used were KnitPro Cubics, unlike other needles, they are square shaped, which allows me to create very tight stitches and very even tension. It's a great needle for beginner too, so stitches won't slip off so easily, so my beginner friends were all using it when we learned to knit together. But these needles wouldn't let you speed knit, so if speed is what you're looking for, these may not suit you.
Yarn Used
  • Wolle Rödel - Soft Merino
  • Colour - 340 gras
  • Material - 100% Merino Wool (Superwash)
  • 50g = 100m
  • Suggested needle size: 4mm - 5mm
  • Gauge (10x10cm) - from manufacturer: 18 stitches 24 rows
  • Gauge (10x10cm) - from me: 24 stitches 23 rows with 4mm needles
  • Amount Used - approx. 2 1/3 balls
  • Cost - 11.07 Euro
Materials
  • 4mm Needles (I used KnitPro Cubics Fixed Circular Needles)
  • Scissors (to cut yarn when finished)
  • Yarn needles (to weave in ends)
  • Tape measure (to measure the piece obviously)

Finished Size

  • 9cm x 145cm
How I Did It (Free Pattern!!, hehe)

  1. Cast on 22 stitches
  2. Work garter stitch all the way, which means knit all stitches
  3. To create the nice edge of the scarf, I slip the first stitch purl-wise, then knit every stitch, including the last stitch
  4. When it reaches the desired length, bind off and weave in ends
Side Notes

For edges, some people prefer to knit the first stitch and slip the last stitch for each row, but I prefer slipping the first stitch and knit the last because I find it easier.

Some Thoughts

This project actually lasted for about 3 months, because it's too simple, it can get quite boring to work on sometimes (plus we went back to Hong Kong for a month in December and I stopped all projects during our holiday period). But glad it was done and husband was happy, he wears it quite often, especially when he goes to work. Always glad to see my work being worn and appreciated :)
